Our Faith

Our Faith

We believe the Bible to be the written word of God.  It is the final authority for all that we believe and do.   We are ‘reformed’ in the sense of striving to maintain the truths of the Reformation in the 16th Century.  Our source of authority is the Bible alone.  Salvation comes to us through Christ alone and is received because of God’s grace (another alone!) and becomes a part of our experience by faith alone! Read below for more information about these beliefs, or click on The Reformation link to the right.

The Bible Alone
The flawless Word of God is the only source of written divine revelation. The Bible alone teaches all that is necessary for our salvation from sin and is the standard by which all Christian behaviour must be measured. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit never speaks independently of or contrary to what is set forth in the Bible. No personal spiritual experience can ever substitute for the Scriptures.

By Christ Alone
Our salvation is accomplished by the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ alone. He sacrificed His life, that we might be saved. We have peace with God by believing that Jesus is our substitute, both by His living the perfect life that we couldn't live, and in His dying the death that we deserve to die. The gospel cannot be preached unless Christ’s work as our substitute is declared, and faith in Christ and His work is required.

By Grace Alone
In salvation we are rescued from God’s just wrath by His grace alone. It is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that brings us to Christ by releasing us from our slavery to sin and raising us from spiritual death to spiritual life. Our salvation is NOT in any sense a human work. Human methods, techniques or strategies cannot accomplish this transformation.

By Faith Alone
The only way for us to receive God’s grace is through faith. True faith in Christ involves not just an intellectual belief, but a devotion of one’s life that will seek to reflect Christ in daily life. Salvation cannot rest on any merit or good deeds to be found in us, for faith is not produced by our sinful human nature but as a gift of God.

To God’s Glory Alone
Because salvation is of God and has been accomplished by God, it is for God’s glory and we must glorify Him always. We must live our entire lives before the face of God, under the authority of God and for His glory alone.
We cannot properly glorify God if our worship is confused with entertainment, if we neglect either the OT or NT in our teaching, or if self-improvement, self-esteem or self-fulfilment are allowed to become alternatives to the gospel message.
